| A dial
bore gauge is one of the most accurate tools for measuring a cylindrical
bore or for checking a bore for out-of-roundness or taper. A dial bore gauge
does not provide a direct measurement. It indicates the amount of deviation
from a preset size or dimension of one bore to another. A dial bore gauge
must be preset to a known standard. A typical known standard would be a
micrometer, caliper or master ring gage. For absolute precision a certified
insulated hardened and ground master ring gage provides superior accuracy.
If a ring gage is not available an outside micrometer will provide
satisfactory results. For
